Early Life and Education

Donald was born on December 20, 1923, in Notasulga, Alabama. He was the son of sharecroppers and grew up in poverty. Despite the challenges he faced, Donald was a bright and ambitious young man. He graduated from high school at the age of 16 and went on to attend Lincoln University, a historically black college in Pennsylvania.

At Lincoln University, Donald studied political science and law. He was a gifted student and became involved in the civil rights movement. He joined the NAACP and participated in protests against segregation and discrimination.

Legal Career

After graduating from Lincoln University, Donald returned to Alabama and began practicing law. He quickly established himself as a skilled and dedicated civil rights attorney. He represented clients in numerous cases involving segregation, voting rights, and other civil rights issues.

In the early 1950s, Donald became involved in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. He represented Rosa Parks, the African American woman who was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man. Donald's legal skills and strategic thinking played a key role in the success of the boycott, which led to the desegregation of buses in Montgomery.

Political Career

In addition to his legal work, Donald was also active in politics. He served in the Alabama State Legislature from 1955 to 1959. During his time in the legislature, he introduced several bills aimed at improving the lives of African Americans in Alabama.

In 1958, Donald ran for Congress as a Democrat. He was defeated by a white opponent, but he continued to work for civil rights and social justice throughout his life.

Humanitarian Work

In addition to his legal and political work, Donald was also a devoted humanitarian. He founded the Lincoln Donald Educational Foundation, which provided scholarships to underprivileged students. He also worked to improve housing and healthcare for low-income families.

Legacy

Lincoln David Herbert Donald died on October 25, 2012, at the age of 88. He is remembered as a tireless advocate for civil rights and social justice. His work has had a lasting impact on the lives of African Americans in the United States.
